How many times in your career have you been comfortable with the target imposed upon you by your boss, honestly never or rarely. Your boss will have 1001 reasons for the productivity expected from you but the boss is the boss who will not care to empathize with you.
You can at the most crib about the unreasonable with your co-workers whose situation may not be any better. Will you stretch your working hours too often or(and) you will work during the weekends to achieve the productivity levels expected from you (this may not apply to US and Europe where blessed employees live if I am correct). Then how will you handle these never ending situations, perhaps the answer lies within you.
I have told you why productivity is very important to your boss, your organization and is a sure fire way to your successful career in one my earlier post. If you haven’t you can read it here.
If you have read it then you can understand why your boss is harassing you with ever increasing targets he too does not have many options and has another boss sitting on his head. In most organizations the targets are decided after some scientific study. And most the employees fail to achieve it. The most important reason for that is somewhere in there mind they have fear that if they reach the target then it would be revisited with a higher one.
Now ask your inner-self “am I working to my full capability?”. If the answer is yes then you can continue with you do and don’t expect you organization to recognize you. If your answer is no then you are well on the way to become a person whom any organization will dream to have.
When your inner-self says no then ask this question “who is this crap to decide my capacity? am I capable of finding it myself?”. The answer is a sure yes for any person with any level of skill, this one question asked to your inner-self will motivate you achieve your real productivity. If the answer is no then make it to yes by dreaming about yourself as a top performer in your company and the benefits that will come with it and agreeing to work towards it.
Take a list of your activities that wastes your time and remove it one by one. Take regular breaks during work, preferably 5-10 minutes every hour. Just relax during the breaks and think about whatever that interest you and never think about the work. During work never think about anything that will distract your concentration, if you find something is bothering you then just take a note of it and tell to yourself that you will sort it out during your break.
Make sure that you follow this day in and day out and you will be pleasantly surprised that your productivity is way above than the one that is expected by your boss.
