Hard and Soft Blogging

Hard and Soft Blogging

December 11th, 2007  |  Published in Blogging

We have come across different types of blogs in a variety of fields. Most of the bloggers write in their field of expertise, depending on it they are forced to become a hard or a soft blogger. What is hard and soft blogging?

In a sentence I would say that the bloggers who post multiple times a day are hard bloggers and those who post once in a day or two are soft bloggers. This definition is very generic and can be misleading as there are no hard and fast rules to the frequency of blogging. Then what is hard and soft blogging.

Hard Blogging

  1. Bloggers generally report the latest developments in a particular niche.
  2. The content they write will be valid only for a limited time.
  3. Bloggers writing about politics, electronics, gadgets, softwares, most of the technology related blogging will come under hard blogging.
  4. Networking is crucial to report the latest news.
  5. Passive income is not possible.
  6. Most of the content is a review about the technology or a product.
  7. Techcrunch and Engadget.com are perfect examples of hard blogging.

If the bloggers writing about the latest developments in technology stop writing then their visitor count would begin to diminish sharply and would soon become negligible. This is due to their content bank becoming outdated as their chosen field changes day by day.

Soft Blogging

  1. Bloggers generally write about their personal experience or advise others about everlasting topics.
  2. The content these bloggers write will apply for a long period of time.
  3. Bloggers generally write about personal development, career, pets, blogging, humor and also provide tips about these topics.
  4. Although networking is crucial for anyone’s success it is not essential for them to write their content.
  5. Steve Pavlina and Problogger are good examples of these type of blogging.
  6. Passive income is their power.

It does not mean that these soft bloggers can write content and then relax due to passive income generated by their posts which will apply for a long time. They too will have to constantly write if they are to be noticed in the blogosphere which is the fate of bloggers or is closely related to how blogosphere operates. But it will take a lot of time for the traffic to go down if they have networked sufficiently.

Well I have shown you two types of blogging, choose the one that is comfortable to you, however it is closely related to the niche in which you decide to blog.

All the best and if you find the post useful then feel free to keep in touch with me.
